Music

At Manor Park Primary Academy our music is taught through the high-quality music education scheme Charanga.

Manor Park Primary Academy believes that everyone should enjoy every minute of their music education.

Music is transformative. We are passionate about children’s music learning and its potential to help them grow up as kind, curious, and open-minded young people who are sensitive and knowledgeable about music and the arts.

You can find out more about Charanga at https://charanga.com/site/about-charanga/

Charanga’s English Model Music Curriculum Scheme is aligned with the National Curriculum for Music and the non-statutory Model Music Curriculum (MMC) Guidance published by the DfE in 2021.

This Scheme provides clearly-sequenced units and lessons, including engaging and exciting songs and resources to support every lesson.

The scheme follows a spiral approach to musical learning, with children revisiting, building and extending their knowledge and skills incrementally. In this manner, their learning is consolidated and augmented, increasing musical confidence and enabling them to go further.

During phase assemblies, we listen to, and appreciate, pieces from a wide range of cultures and traditions, ensuring that children in Years 1–6 gain a broad aural knowledge of Western Classical Music, Popular Music (defined broadly) and Traditional Music from around the world.
