The Early Years Foundation stage at Manor Park.

Welcome to our Early Years Foundation Stage page. We hope this page answers any questions you may have regarding the provision at Manor Park Primary Academy.

The Early Years Curriculum:

Activities are carefully planned and organised to provide a range of learning experiences for children to flourish and make exceptional progress. Planning for each term is carried out using a topic based approach, which is flexible to take into consideration children's interests and specific events.

There are seven areas of learning within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) that activities are planned around:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

  • Physical Development

  • Communication and Language

  • Literacy

  • Mathematics

  • Understanding the World

  • Expressive Arts and Design

Throughout the academic year, staff will record children's learning in their personal folder. Each child's folder will contain samples of work, photographs and staff observations. These folders enable staff to track progress and attainment and plan for future activities.

For more information regarding what your child will learn during the year, select this link to view the Early Years Overview/long term plan.

You can also read about the full curriculum here.

School meals

Both nursery and reception lunch time runs from 11.30am- 12.30pm. All children eat in the dining hall, and then have access to the outdoor play area. Children can choose from a wide variety of foods including our fresh salad bar. Children in reception are entitled to free school meals and all meat served is halal. If you wish for your child to bring in a packed lunch, please ensure they have a lunch box or bag that is clearly labelled with their name and class.

Reading and Phonics

Read Write Inc. Phonics (RWI) teaches children to read accurately and fluently with good comprehension. At Manor Park Primary Academy, children in Reception and Year 1 are taught daily using RWI. There are also additional phonic groups from Year 2 -Year 6 who receive this approach to the teaching of reading. Children are grouped based upon what they already know and what they need to learn next in order to become a fluent reader.

They experience success from the very beginning. Lively phonics books are closely matched to their increasing knowledge of phonics and ‘tricky’ words and, as children re-read the stories, their fluency increases.

See links for parental help understanding and using RWI.

We currently use Tapestry, which is an online assessment and communication tool which can be accessed by staff and parents/carers. When a child enrols at Manor Park Primary Academy, parents or carers will be given information and an individual login for their child's account.
